Early Years Foundation Stage (Reception)

Mrs Aiken - EYFS Lead

At RAB we ensure that our children in Reception have an engaging, creative and purposeful learning environment which offers them opportunities to be active, engaged and learn both independently and collaboratively. During their day at school, children in Reception spend time learning as part of the whole class on the carpet, engaging in child initiated ‘active learning’ and working with an adult either individually or as part of a group. Adults quickly form strong, secure and trusting relationships with the children and ensure that they support each child to move forwards with their learning across the EYFS curriculum. The balance of whole class learning and active learning changes as the year progresses to ensure that children are well prepared for their transition to Year 1 and the start of the National curriculum.

Our EYFS curriculum gives children opportunities to:

  • be willing to have a go (risk taking)
  • be involved and concentrating (resilience)
  • have their own ideas and share them with others (aRticulate)
  • choose ways to do things (resourceful)
  • find new ways of doing things (reflective)
  • enjoy achieving what they set out to do (respectful relationships)
  • be challenged by adults to take ‘next steps’ in their learning
